ABOUT CINDY

My background and how I help

I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor in British Columbia with over 17 years of experience supporting individuals through life’s challenges. My professional journey has spanned hospital and military settings, private practice, employee assistance programs (EAP), professional training, and clinical supervision. Before moving to Canada, I practised as a Clinical Psychologist in South Africa, where I owned and operated a group private practice and provided training and supervision to other mental health professionals.

I work with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, burnout, grief and loss, chronic illness, relationship difficulties, parenting challenges, fertility and pregnancy concerns, and major life transitions. I also have extensive experience supporting individuals who have experienced trauma and adverse life events. Whether trauma stems from a single event, childhood experiences, workplace experiences, relationship difficulties, medical challenges, or ongoing life stressors, I aim to provide a safe and supportive space where clients can make sense of their experiences, develop effective coping strategies, and move toward healing and recovery.

My therapeutic approach is grounded primarily in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), complemented by trauma-informed and client-centred principles. Over the years, I have completed more than 300 hours of advanced CBT training through internationally recognized organizations, including the Beck Institute, Albert Ellis Institute, and the National Association of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapists. I believe counselling should be both compassionate and practical, helping clients gain insight while also developing meaningful skills and strategies that can be applied in everyday life.

A SHARED UNDERSTANDING

What you can expect from our work together

Having immigrated from South Africa to Vancouver with my family, I understand many of the challenges that accompany significant life changes. Adapting to a new country, navigating uncertainty, balancing personal and professional responsibilities, and building a sense of belonging are experiences that have deepened both my personal understanding and professional empathy. As a parent, I also appreciate the realities of juggling family life, work demands, and personal wellbeing.

My goal is to create a warm, respectful, and collaborative counselling experience where clients feel understood, supported, and empowered to move toward the life they want to build.

“I believe people are remarkably resilient, and with the right support, insight, and tools, meaningful change is possible.”
I currently provide secure online counselling services to clients throughout British Columbia, with limited in-person appointments available.

Ready when you are.

If any of this resonates, I’d be glad to hear from you.
